We believe that if something needs explaining, then it's too complicated. You'll find you can use PagePlay without learning any new skills at all. If you can use the web, you'll be fine.
We knew that even though there were thousands of other content management systems out there, we had an opportunity to create something that was so easy to use - almost anyone could do it.
Most of us don't have time to spend working out a new system for our website. We knew this was the case from the clients we had worked with.
Providing a service that people could just leap straight into gives many benefits:
No need for us to spend time training clients
No need for clients to hire other people to do their content
Broadens the number of people who can manage content - resulting in better content
Much more ownership and use of websites - making them more valuable and safegaurding the investment
Whilst developing the first version we needed some way of checking to make sure we weren't simply kidding ourselves about how easy to use PagePlay was. We devised the Mum-test. If they could do it then anyone could!
Whilst that may sound harsh - we think you should hear us out. Our mums are really intelligent and could learn more complex systems than PagePlay if they wanted to. The key thing we were looking for was whether they would take to it without the need for painfully long explanation and training. Would they get it and hit the ground running?
They did! And we were very relieved.
This is our phone number:
Just a normal Manchester phone number. In fact - just a normal office phone on Chris' desk. And it's on the internet and in the hands of all of our customers.
We decided not to hide behind a support system, to try and manage all of the requests for help. We decided not to employ a company to handle our phone calls. We thought there was a much easier way:
Not rocket science eh? We still offer free phone support, and of the hundreds of people signed up for PagePlay, we probably only receive one or two support calls each week. Those calls are usually suggestions for future features!
We took a risk and bet that PagePlay would be so easy we could give our number out to everyone - and it paid off.
